What Is Palm Sunday?

Palm Sunday is a Christian holiday that commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem. The day is also known as Passion Sunday, which marks the beginning of Holy Week. On Palm Sunday, Christians celebrate by waving palm branches and singing Hosanna (Please save us).

The Origin of Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday has its roots in Judaism. In the Hebrew Bible, palm branches were used as a symbol of triumph and victory. they were also used as a symbol of peace. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ was welcomed into Jerusalem by a large crowd who laid down their cloaks and palm branches in front of him. 

The Meaning of Palm Sunday

For Christians, Palm Sunday is a day to remember and celebrate Jesus Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. It is a day of hope and joy. The palms represent the victory and triumph of Jesus Christ over death. They also represent his resurrection and ascension into heaven. The palm branches will be saved and burned, and the ashes will be used for the next seasons Ash Wednesday service.
