Welcome to Tent Making Christianity

Hello, and welcome to the Tent Making Christianity blog!

Who Am I?

Welcome to Tent Making Christianity

Let me introduce myself to you.  I am the founder of Tent Making Christianity, an outreach ministry dedicated to helping average, every day Christians better understand and defend their Christian convictions. I am a native Californian. My parents relocated us to Denver, CO (Go Broncos!) when I was 3 years old. When I was 22, I began a career in the transportation industry, and remain there to this day.

Growing up, I was an apathetic atheist that never gave much thought to spiritual things.  If you had asked me what religion I was (as my wife did when we were dating), I would have told you I was Lutheran.  My family attended a Lutheran church until I was 5 or 6 before we stopped going.  I always hung on to that identity, even though it really didn’t mean anything to me at the time.  Over the years, I had several people invite me to church.  I became adept at fending off Different missionaries that would show up on my doorstep and attempt to engage me.

Fairly early in our marriage, my wife and I decided to attend church.  My wife was still under the impression that I was Lutheran. Little did she know that I was still solidly in the non-believer camp. But I agreed to go because I thought that going to church would be good for my kids.  You know, give them a good moral foundation and all that. Then a funny thing happened.

Converting the Uninterested

Our church decided to host an Alpha course.  Let me explain what an Alpha course is for those who may not be familiar with the term. Alpha is an outreach course for Churches to use as an evangelism tool. The idea is that you invite your friends and family to a video presentation each week, and then have discussion groups afterwards.

For some strange reason, I volunteered along with my wife to help with the program. I then got a shock. We were told that we would be leading a small group in the at the conclusion of each nights video lesson. Now, imagine this for a second.  There I was, a comfortable non-Christian, who had just been asked to help lead another group of non-believers to Christ!  Who says God doesn’t have a sense of humor!  If you haven’t already guessed how this turned out, I wound up giving my life to Christ over the course of the class.  I will go into further details on my conversion story in a later blog post.

What Happened Next?

Since then, I have developed a passion for sharing evidence of the truth of the Christian world view, especially with young people. Recently I received a Certificate in Christian Apologetics from Biola University.  I currently live in California with my wife and daughter. We have one grown son, and a beautiful daughter-in-law. Our favorite family activities are going to Disneyland and exploring the many beaches that we are blessed to live by.

Now that you know me a bit, let’s start talking about the blog!  The focus of this blog will be to encourage you as a Tent Making Christian.  So what exactly is a Tent Making Christian?  I’ll tell you in my next post.  Stay tuned!

    1. It’s a great course. Not very popular here in the US, but I keep running across people who have been through the program.

  1. Drew, just now started following you after seeing your site. Thanks for your faithful and robust apologetic ministry. D.B.

  2. I too was introduced to ALPHA a evangelistic program through the Vineyard church here in Texas. However my relationship with the Lord was affirmed many years before. I want to say your blogs and approach to ministry are very insightful and rewarding. God bless.
