Quick Challenge Answer: The Trinity Is Never Mentioned In the Bible

The Trinity

This objection is popular with missionaries of certain cults and off shoots of Christianity.  The notion that the Bible does not mention the Trinity is one that can easily trip up a unprepared Christian.  So does the Bible ever mention the Trinity?

The answer is yes, and no. God never explicitly states in the Bible “I, the Lord your God, am Trinitarian in Nature”.  If you’re looking for that verse, you won’t find it. There are however a multitude of verses that indicate God’s triune nature.

The Trinity
“The Trinity argues about going to Church” by David Hayward

In Genesis 1:26, God says “Let Us create man in Our Image”.  That’s a strange phrasing.  Who is God referring to as “Us” and “We”?  There is no way to reconcile this sentence as being uttered by a monotheistic being unless He has more than one nature.

In Acts 5:3-4, Ananias commits the sin of lying to the Holy Spirit.  Peter rebukes him and says, “You have not lied to men, but to God”.  In this verse, Peter recognizes the Holy Spirit as being God.

John 10:30 has Jesus saying, “The Father and I are One.” The Jewish leadership immediately picked up stones to stone Him to death.  Why? Because they understood the claim Jesus was making.  Jesus was not just claiming to be on with God in spirit.  He was actually claiming to be God.

So if someone makes the claim that “The Trinity is never mentioned in the Bible”, you can begin in agreement.  The Bible does not specifically say that.  However, the verses above, and countless others, are best explained if God is triune in nature.
